Ground Source Heat Pumps (Heat and Hot Water)

System Overview

The temperature of the ground from about 1m depth is relatively constant all year round at about 6-7 degrees Celsius. Lengths of pipe are placed in the ground to collect this ground source heat (various types of collector are available). The collector heat is transferred to the heat pump via an evaporator, this is then passed through a compressor to “amplify” the heat & then through a condenser to transfer the heat to the property heating & hot water system. The fluid in the pipe re-enters the ground at  1 or 2 degrees Celsius & flows around the collector to pick up the ground source heat.
